North Tyneside Art Studio has partnered with Children’s Cancer North to create a powerful art installation as part of their Paint The Toon Gold initiative during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Invisible Journeys brings visibility to the often unseen challenges faced by young cancer patients and their families. It symbolises both the emotional and physical journeys families from across the North East and Cumbria take during treatment at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI).

At its centre is a giant woven sun symbolising the RVI and the dedicated medical, administrative, and research teams working to care for children with cancer and develop kinder treatments. The long golden sun rays mark the vast differences in distance the families travel for their cancer treatment. A journey that holds a mixture of emotions and feelings for the families involved.

Surrounding it are 120 golden stars — one for each child diagnosed with cancer in the North East and Cumbria each year. The larger gold stars hold responses from family members, nursing staff, researchers and children themselves, opening up about the biggest challenges for them when dealing with childhood cancer

Invisible Journeys aims to shed a light on Childhood Cancer Awareness Month across September and offer a show of support for everyone involved!
