The Wreck of the SS Zephyros
23/08/2022 @ 8:45 pm - 9:45 pm
Live Audio Video Performance exploring the shipwreck of the SS Zephyros to coincide the wrecks 75 years as a relic.
This performance will begin at intersection of twilight and low tide on the 23rd August at 20:45.
James’s performance will seek to explore this fossil by performing a live film edit using his collection of recordings made with/ on and from the wreck. The performance will take place on Cullercoats harbour wall within line of sight of Brown’s Point, the final resting place of the Zephyros.
It is hoped the ambience of the location, the incoming tide and the rhythm of water will stimulate this new rendition and enter a dialogue with the ship.
About
James’s creative ethnographic practice explores specific sites asking questions of their contemporary role, relevance and our emotive response to them. His films aim to push the intersection of the visual and sonic land/ seascape. Achieved by combining multiple technologies, juxtaposing traditional and experimental film and field recording techniques, and observing the world through a slow cinematic lens.
In performance James improvises with live video editing, still frames, field recordings, creative programming and microphones. These when combined, push the boundaries of cinematic experience and film making, creating layered environments that challenge and provoke audiences.
