SUMMARY:The Wreck of the SS Zephyros
DESCRIPTION:Live Audio Video Performance exploring the shipwreck of the SS Zephyros to coincide the wrecks 75 years as a relic. \nThis performance will begin at intersection of twilight and low tide on the 23rd August at 20:45. \n  \nJames’s performance will seek to explore this fossil by performing a live film edit using his collection of recordings made with/ on and from the wreck. The performance will take place on Cullercoats harbour wall within line of sight of Brown’s Point\, the final resting place of the Zephyros. \nIt is hoped the ambience of the location\, the incoming tide and the rhythm of water will stimulate this new rendition and enter a dialogue with the ship. \n\n \nAbout\nJames’s creative ethnographic practice explores specific sites asking questions of their contemporary role\, relevance and our emotive response to them. His films aim to push the intersection of the visual and sonic land/ seascape. Achieved by combining multiple technologies\, juxtaposing traditional  and experimental film and field recording techniques\, and observing the world through a slow cinematic lens.\n\n\nIn performance James improvises with live video editing\, still frames\, field recordings\, creative programming and microphones. These when combined\, push the boundaries of cinematic experience and film making\, creating layered environments that challenge and provoke audiences.

SUMMARY:ArtHouses: Revisit
DESCRIPTION:Seven digital artworks reimagined in the physical space of a home in Whitley Bay \nArtHouses is back in the homes of Whitley Bay! Our ArtHouses:22 programme launches with this weekend event that invites people back to experience 7 artworks\, from 7 artists\, hosted in a house in Whitley Bay. \nAll of the artists in the exhibition were commissioned by ArtHouses during the lockdowns to make digital artworks that have been shared online and seen by people on their screens. The works presented in INVERTED in May 2020 were made by artists in lockdown and viewed by audiences on laptops or other devices in their own homes in similarly isolated situations. LOCALwifi artworks were viewed on people’s smartphones at different locations in Whitley Bay\, via an app made for the project\, and using wifi networks hosted by local residents. \nWe have now invited them back to reimagine these works outside of the screen into a family home\, giving the artists the opportunity revisit these works\, and consider how they function in the physical and domestic space of a home. The event creates new meeting places\, opening spaces for conversation and for sharing stories that extend beyond the walls of the building. \nThis free event will be open to the public 12 – 5pm\, Saturday 30th July and Sunday 31st July. \nIf you have any access needs\, need to visit during a quiet time or if you have any other questions please get in touch at arthouseswb@gmail.com \nWHERE IS IT? \nREVISIT will be hosted at number 20 Victoria Avenue\, Whitley Bay\, and will be open to the public 12-5pm. Victoria Avenue is a pedestrianised street running between Whitley Road and the Promenade and a 5 minute walk from Whitley Bay Metro. The house will be clearly signposted and we will be there to greet visitors.
